Meech Davignon, from California, USA, adopted a chicken with a serious disability; the Malaysian Serama breed lost its toe fingers due to feather mites, parasites that feed on blood, feathers, and bird scales.

Davignon named her Nubz and treated her with great care, using Vaseline and cotton bandages that needed to be changed three times a day. She did everything to help the chicken recover, but realized that even with the treatment, the bird had difficulty moving on hard surfaces.

So Davignon remembered she had a pair of tiny slippers that her little dog never wore and that could serve Nubz well. “As she got more comfortable with her little shoes, I let her wear them longer and longer,” said the bird’s guardian to the Washington Post. “Soon she was moving much better than without them because they were excellent little mobility devices. I let her use them to walk on wooden splinters and anything else that was rough for her feet.”

Last January, Davignon created a TikTok account for Nubz, with videos of her walking in her slippers. This generated a wave of interest in the chicken, and many internet users commented if they could send more shoes to the feathered friend. That’s when the packages started arriving, and soon Nubz had models for every occasion, from blue suede shoes and boots with dinosaur claws to sandals and sports sneakers.

Davignon keeps all the little shoes in a dresser in her room, and every time a new pair arrives in the mail, she posts a video on the chicken’s TikTok showing off. “Internet users have been a great blessing; it’s surreal that so many people love my little pet,” she said.
